A preliminary report on the crash of Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) flight number PK8303 in Karachi has blamed the pilot and air traffic controller for the incident.
Investigators said the pilot did not follow the procedure and was more confident, according to the report. The air traffic controller was held equally responsible for the incident because he did not ask the pilot to make an emergency landing after the plane hit the runway.
The report is based on cockpit voice recorder data, aircraft wreckage, and other evidence gathered from the wreckage by the investigation team.
The Aircraft Accident and Investigation Board (AAIB), headed by Air Commodore Muhammad Usman Ghani, has submitted a preliminary report on the PK8303 accident to Federal Minister for Aviation Ghulam Sarwar Khan. The minister is expected to submit a preliminary report to Prime Minister Imran Khan tomorrow.
A preliminary report on the PK8303 crash has been compiled with cockpit voice recorder data, wreckage, and other evidence collected by the investigation team from the crash site.
On May 22, the Airbus A320 took off from Lahore, with 99 passengers and crew on board near the airport in the Pakistani city of Karachi. The plane reportedly made two failed landing attempts and it is suspected that it lost both engines after the first failed landing.
It crashed in the densely populated southern city of Karachi, about a kilometer from the airport's runway. A dozen people were injured on the ground as a result of the accident.
