Mobile phones are pathways for coronavirus transmition
Dubai police scientist says that the use of nonsterilized mobile phones can easily spread the virus.

A Dubai Police scientist told the media on Sunday that mobile phones are pathways for coronavirus transmission and are likely to carry the disease as a 'Trojan horse' in your home.

Amid the global COVID-19 pandemic, which has infected more than 4.6 million so far, the scientist said the phones were a major source of proliferation and contamination.

Major Drs, Head of Training and Development in General Department of Forensic Sciences and Criminology at Dubai Police.

Rashid Al Ghairi conducted research with a group of scientists at several Australian universities which proved that mobile phones represent a pathway for microbial transmission to Covid-19.

"We analyzed various mobile phones and detected hundreds of microbes on their surfaces," said Al Ghairi. “Mobile phones carry infectious pathogens such as bacteria and viruses such as COVID-19.

Phones are likely to have horses 'Trojan horses' which contribute to community transmission in the epidemic, ”he said. According to research, this transfer of pathogens over the phone creates a serious health concern among people as the infection is probably spread via phone within workplaces, in public transport, cruise ships, and airplanes.

Microbes living on the surfaces of phones can spread to a person through physical contact.

“Mobile phones generate heat when used and stimulate microbes to live and regenerate for a long time. The phone is likely to aid the spread of viruses including coronaviruses, ”he said.

The group of scientists reviewed all studies and journals analyzing germs found on mobile phones before publishing research findings in the Journal of Travel Medicine and Infectious Diseases.

"Contaminated mobile phones pose a real biosafety risk, allowing pathogens to easily cross borders," said Al Ghauri. "If a person is infected with the virus, it is very likely that their mobile phones will be contaminated because the virus can remain on the surfaces for a long time."

Al Ghauri said that between research and the fact that on average humans touch their face hundreds of times per day, there is a high chance of infection from diseases such as COVID-19.

"Before the coronavirus epidemic, people were rarely cleaning or disinfecting their phones, but now people are cleaning their phones on a daily basis and it has become a habit," he said.

Everyone should keep their phone as an extension of their hand and bear in mind that it can transfer whatever is on your phone to your hand.

For that reason, Al Ghauri advised that in addition to washing your hands regularly, you should also disinfect your phone with an alcohol-based sanitizer.

"Mobile phones and other touch screen devices must be weeded out daily," he said. “Use a 70 percent isopropyl alcohol spray or other disinfection methods. Always treat your phone as a carrier of diseases. "
