Islamabad Police Refuses to Register Case Against US blogger Cynthia D Richie

Islamabad police on Friday refused to register a case against US blogger Cynthia D Richie, saying it was a cybercrime case and was under the purview of the Federal Investigation Agency.

Petitioner Waqas Ahmad Abbasi submitted a written petition on June 1, ”Islamabad police added, adding that an investigation revealed that the matter needed to be investigated by the FIA ​​Cyber ​​Crime.

The petitioner was directed by the police to approach the FIA ​​Cyber ​​Crime Wing. The report was filed in the district court of Islamabad by the Bani Gala police station.

Earlier on June 9, the FIA ​​had asked the Islamabad Sessions Court to dismiss the plea against US blogger Cynthia Richie for her blasphemous tweets about former Prime Minister Benazir Bhutto. Asserting that the petitioner, PPP Islamabad President Shakeel Abbasi is not an affected party.

However, Additional Sessions Judge Ata Rabbani issued notice to Cynthia seeking a reply by June 13.

The FIA, in its written reply to the court, argued that according to its rules, only the aggrieved party, the victim, or their guardians, could lodge such a complaint with the agency.

A day earlier, Richie had taken legal notice of former Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani, who had demanded Rs 12 million in damages to tarnish his image nationally and internationally.

On June 10, the former prime minister Yousaf Raza Gilani sent a legal notice to Cynthia D Richie demanding for the Rs 100 million in damages while denying that he had met her when he was prime minister.
