United States Bans PIA Flights due to Fake Pilot Licenses Scandal

Troubles for Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) has increased on Thursday as the United States also has banned plane flights of Pakistan's largest national airline for six months, due to the fake pilot licenses scandal.

The move killed 262 pilots whose licenses were described by Aviation Minister Ghulam Sarwar Khan as "suspicious".

Earlier, the European Union's Air Safety Agency (EASA) suspended PIA's permission to operate in the block for six months on the same grounds.

Sources said that the US authorities had informed the PIA about the ban through an email. He added that the licenses of special flights obtained by the airline have also been revoked. U.S. officials said the ban was imposed because of the recent issuance of pilot licenses at the PIA.

PIA was allowed to operate 12 direct special flights to the United States, of which the airline operated seven. According to sources, permission for the remaining five flights has now been revoked.
