The Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) on Saturday moved a resolution in the Punjab Assembly against the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) condemning the cases filed against the Sharif family by accountability monitoring.
The resolution was presented by PML-N member Sameera Komal. The resolution given in the Punjab Legislative Assembly said that there is a strong condemnation of false propaganda against the Sharif family by anti-corruption watchdogs. The bureau has been making fun of the Sharif family and PML-N for three years.
'NAB cases are going on against federal and provincial ministers, including the Prime Minister; however, the bureau has failed to maintain its impartiality and efficacy,' it said.
NAB is investigating the Sharif family in the Chaudhary sugar mills for money laundering and illegal transfer of its shares.
As reported by The News, NAB Lahore has forwarded money laundering and assets worth Rs 7 billion, besides references against members of the Sharif family for approval to be filed in the accountability court. It also includes an investigation related to the Chaudhary Sugar Mill case.
In March this year, an accountability court exempted Nawaz Sharif, Maryam Nawaz, and nephew Yusuf Abbas from personal appearance until filing a reference.
According to the NAB, in January 2018, the bureau received a Financial Monitoring Unit (FMU) report describing large suspicious transactions worth billions of rupees at the Chaudhary sugar mills under the Anti Money-Laundering Act.
It is pertinent to mention here that in January 2018, PML-N was ruling the country. After receiving the FMU report, NAB began its investigation in October 2018 and found that Nawaz Sharif, Maryam Nawaz, Shahbaz Sharif, and family and Abbas Sharif and family, along with some foreigners from the UAE and the UK, were shareholders in the company.
In November 2019, the Lahore High Court (LHC) granted bail to PML-N leader Maryam Nawaz in the case. In its judgment, the court directed Maryam Nawaz to submit her passport to the court and present two surety bonds of two hundred rupees to each person.
The court also directed the PML-N leader to deposit 70 million separately with the court.
