The Islamabad High Court (IHC) on Tuesday gave the federal government two weeks to file its reply to a petition filed against the unavailability of e-commerce facilities in the country.
IHC CJ Athar Minallah, while issuing notices to the Ministries of Commerce and Information Technology, noted that the petitioner was upset as the respondents had failed to comply with the mandatory requirements laid down in the e-commerce policy, 2019.
In the petition, a citizen named Junaid Hafeez informed the court that Pakistan does not have access to Amazon, the world's largest e-commerce company.
He explained that for over a decade, Amazon had prevented anyone Pakistan from logging into its website due to its unsecured payment method.
'There has been no official discussion about the offer to launch Amazon or PayPal operations in Pakistan,' the petition said.
The implication is that the government has failed to adopt this simple but logical approach to globalization and modernization.
The petitioner pointed out that the e-commerce industry has grown to more than 4 4 trillion worldwide but the government has failed to take advantage of the opportunities provided by the industry due to the government's lack of care.
He asked the court to declare the e-commerce policy, 2019, as flawed and flawed.
E-commerce policy, 2019 is flawed and flawed in many respects as it acknowledges the need to amend existing consumer protection laws. Sympathetically, China, Russia, and many other countries have special provisions in the Consumer Protection Laws for e-commerce.
The petitioner contended that the Data Protection Act (CAM) was a condition that exemplified the success and growing e-commerce industry. 'However, there are no data protection laws in Pakistan,' he added.

It already has millions of sellers in the marketplace, mostly 96,210 new sellers on Amazon.com, 67,636 new sellers on Amazon.nl, and 49,764 on Amazon.com. New sellers were supportive.
Abdul Razzaq Dawood, Advisor to the Prime Minister on Commerce and Investment, had recently said that Pakistan was in the process of registering the country's goods sellers with US e-commerce company Amazon and had sent a list of 38 exporters for registration.
The preliminary list of 38 exporters includes the surgical and sports equipment and home textile sectors, and the list will be expanded to other sectors in the near future after successful testing of shortlisted companies.
