President Donald Trump has said he will order the deployment of military force if violent riots continue in the United States following the killing of an unarmed African American man in Minneapolis.
The dramatic rise came a week after George Floyd's Manipolis was crushed to his knees by a police officer, sparking the worst civil unrest in decades in New York, Los Angeles. Was Dozens of other American cities.
Subsequent to being criticized for his silence on the raising emergency, Trump shouted in loud voice in a nationwide address to the White House as police launched tear gas at the protesters outside.
'I am sending thousands and thousands of heavily armed soldiers, military staff and law enforcement officers to put a stop to riots, plundering, vandalism, assaults and the pulverization of property,' he said.
He called last night's unrest in Washington a "total disgrace" and called on governors to work "swiftly and vigorously" to dominate the streets.
'If a city or state refuses to take the necessary steps to protect the lives and property of its residents, I will deploy a US military force and solve their problem myself," The President said.
After his speech, protesters outside the White House were allowed to cross the street to the two-century-old St. John's Church, which was hit by graffiti and partially damaged by fire during unrest on Sunday.
"We have a huge country," Trump declared, as he stood in front of church windows, holding a Bible and standing for pictures.
The backlash was quick, 'What the president did today was call the US military against American citizens.' stated Andrew Cuomo the Governor of New York on Twitter,
'They used the army to carry out peaceful protests so that they could put up photos in a church. It's all a reality TV show for the president.'
Thousands have taken part in protests against police brutality and racism across the country since Floyd's assassination.
It was the deadliest unrest in the United States since 1968 when the killing of civil rights icon Martin Luther King Jr. sparked an uproar in the cities.
Many demonstrations have taken place through peaceful and emotional moments, such as officers embracing tearful protesters and marching or kneeling.
