Senior PPP leader and Senator Rehman Malik has vehemently denied allegations of rape against him in Pakistan by American blogger Cynthia Richie, calling them baseless, shameful and inappropriate.
In a video broadcast live on Facebook the day before, Richie alleges that she was abused by a senior member of the party, while two others used it as a weapon on a separate occasion. ۔
A spokesman for the PPP leader said in a statement that the motive behind the American blogger's allegations was to tarnish Rehman Malik's reputation.
A spokesman for the former interior minister said, 'An American woman made inappropriate allegations against Rehman Malik for provoking an individual or a group.'
The country has always spoken out against Indian atrocities in occupied Kashmir and against the mistreatment of its own minority Muslims by India.
The spokesman added that the country always speaks in favor of women's rights.
The spokesman added that the allegations against Rehman Malik came at a time when he took note of the allegations against the late Benazir Bhutto as chairman of the Interior Ministry.
The ongoing social media controversy between Cynthia de Richie and various PPP leaders took a black turn on Friday when Richie took to Facebook to make several serious allegations against the party's senior leadership.
She said the incidents took place in 2011 when the PPP was in power, and when the individual accused him of rape, he was a senior minister.
Ritchie further alleged that two other senior party leaders, a federal minister and former prime minister Yousuf Raza Gilani had physically abused her while she was in the President's House. But what was defamatory?
In a subsequent text message on Facebook, Richie said the alleged rape took place at the accused's residence in Islamabad's Wazir Enclave in 2011, at the time of the Osama bin Laden incident.
However, she said she had told someone about the incident at the US embassy in 2011, but because of the fluid situation and complex relations between Washington and Islamabad, the answer was less than reasonable.
In response to the allegations against him, former Prime Minister Gilani asked 'Can any Prime Minister ever commit such an act in the Presidency?'
'Who was the woman in the presidency who made such allegations?' He added 'Who gave her the right to accuse politicians like this?'
He said it would be insulting to respond to such statements.
He said Richie had as of late leveled a few allegations against former Pakistani Prime Minister and late party leader Benazir Bhutto and nobody can endure such allegations.
'I am not worried about what has been said about me. I am more concerned about the baseless allegations against Shaheed Benazir.'
'Ali Haider Gilani and Ali Qasim have approached the court in this regard,' he said.
