President Donald Trump has temporarily suspended various visa categories. This includes the H-1B visa, which allows highly skilled professionals to live and work in the United States for up to six years.
It was announced on June 22, 2020. It will take effect on June 24 and will run until the end of 2020.
The H-1B visa allows U.S. companies to utilize graduate-level laborers in specific occupations for hypothetical or specialized orders in IT, fund, bookkeeping, design, building, arithmetic, science, medication, and so on. Abilities are required.
This decision will affect Indians as they are one of the biggest beneficiaries of the program. In 2020, two-thirds of H-1B applications came from Indians.
India's IT industry-government branch Nasscom said in a statement:
'Although our companies have hired tens of thousands of Americans and invested billions of dollars in recent years, they, like everyone else in the sector, use their top clients to serve their clients.'
'This new announcement will impose a new challenge and potentially force more work to be done overseas because local talent is not available.'
While Indians are struggling to cope with the situation, experts believe the move has largely dashed the Trump administration's hopes.
Many CEOs of top US companies have commented on the decision.
A senior government official reportedly said the move would create more than half a million jobs for Americans. However, more than 80% of experts from reputable universities are skeptical of this claim.
