According to a notification issued on Wednesday by the country's telecommunications regulatory body, the popular multiplayer online battle game Player Unknown Battleground PUBG is temporarily banned in Pakistan for being addictive and detrimental to the health of players.
The Pakistan Telecommunications Authority (PTA) has said it has received several complaints against PUBG, alleging that the game is addictive, a waste of time, and a serious threat to children's physical and mental health.
He added that the decision was based on complaints received from various sections of society, as well as media reports claiming 'suicide incidents attributed to the PUBG game.'
The Honorary Lahore High Court has also directed the PTA to look into the matter and decide the matter after hearing the complainants. A hearing in this regard is underway on July 9, 2020.
The statement further said, 'The Authority has also decided to solicit the views of the public on the said online game.'
According to a newspaper report, the Lahore police chief had requested the Inspector General of Police Punjab to ban the PUBG online gaming application PUBG, when youths committed suicide after failing to complete a PUBG mission.
Lahore Capital City Police Officer (CCPO) Zulfiqar Hameed wrote in a letter to IG Punjab: 'PUBG is an online multiplayer game that has gained immense popularity among the youth the game has inspired young people and changed their behavior.'
