Sony officially revealed it's upcoming PlayStation 5 console on Friday, as well as a host of upcoming exclusive games for the console which is due to release later this year.
The Japanese consumer electronics giant has not disclosed pricing and launch dates for the PS5, which will launch a new Xbox Series X from Microsoft when the rival consoles hit the market later this year.
Jim Ryan, Head of Sony Interactive Entertainment, said, "With PlayStation 5, we're really taking a major leap forward in providing the new generation with a gameplay transformation that will define expectations for the game."
Ryan said the powerful hardware will deliver "the most beautiful and elegant" content that will "captivate your senses in ways you never thought possible."
A series, hour-long presentation featuring the titles prepared for PSM ended with the first glimpse of the console, a dark tower with white sides that surrounded it like a partially open cottage.
Two versions of the PS5 were shown, one with slots for games or video discs, and the other without players preferring to download titles via the Internet.
Ryan used the PS5 as Sony's most "amazing" console design to date.
The PlayStation presentation, though, features games, which are the main drivers of console sales.
Sony said Rockstar's blockbuster video game Grand Theft Auto V, which includes players involved in large-scale criminal activity, is being made for PS5 with expanded content and improved performance.
Games featured during the PS5 event included Marvel's Spider-Man Mail Morales and first-person shooter Death Loop, in which rival killers are locked in a confrontation with enemies on the island.
In addition to the hit survival-themed franchise, the car racing game Gran Turismo 7 was also featured with a resident Evil Village.
"The PlayStation 5 will represent a paradigm shift in what players expect from gaming," said Herman Holst, head of studios around the world and co-founder of Guerrilla Games.
Guerrilla is working on a sequel to the open-world action-adventure game Horizon Zero Dawn called 'Horizon Forbidden West' exclusively for the PS5.
Microsoft last month unveiled this year's upcoming game for its new Xbox console, which makes fans hungry to escape an epidemic.
Microsoft has not yet announced a release date for the Xbox Series X.
PlayStation 4 consoles have been selling the Xbox One since the rival gaming system launched in late 2013.
Although many titles can be played on different consoles, analysts point out that Microsoft faces a difficult challenge, Sony has special features such as Horizon Zero Dawn, God of War and Marvel's Spider-Man. There is a strong library.
