Punjab Information Minister Fayaz-ul-Hasan Chauhan has said that as part of lifting the lockdown in phases, the provincial government will reopen the shopping malls and allow the public transport industry to resume operations from Monday.

The minister's statement came after more than 14,000 cases of coronavirus and more than 240 deaths were reported in Punjab.

Chauhan said the situation in the entire province is satisfactory after the government allowed people to go about their daily businesses while ensuring the implementation of the standard operating procedures of the government.

The minister said that it would be decided to reduce or ramp up the lockdown ban keeping in mind the public response during the coronavirus epidemic.

He said that people can carry out daily activities by ensuring that they are following the SOP imposed by the government.

The Punjab minister hoped that the public would not take undue advantage easily and would act responsibly.

He said the transport industry has been given permission to resume inter-city travel with the previously agreed SOP.

Earlier today, Chief Minister Punjab Osman Buzdar urged citizens to follow standard operating procedures set by the government to be safe from coronovirus.

The day before, the Punjab government decided in principle to allow public transport to resume.

Punjab finalized the SOP in a meeting with the Transport Association, in which the latter representative agreed to reduce fares due to the fall in petroleum prices.
