FIA Arrests Karachi Police Officer Suspected having Connections to RAW


The Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) on Saturday arrested a suspected member of a cell operated by the Indian Intelligence Agency Research and Analysis Wing (RAW) in Karachi.

According to FIA officials, the suspect was serving as an assistant sub-inspector (ASI) in the special branch of police and was a prominent member of the RAW sleeper cell.

'The accused agent was on surveillance duty at the Karachi airport at the time of his arrest,' officials said.

According to FIA officials, the suspect was admitted to the Sindh police in the year 1991 and was a member of the London group of MQM. He was involved at the airport for the convenience of his colleagues and was also involved in targeted assassinations and counterterrorism activities.

Officials said the accused came to India in 2008 to receive training.

Last month, another police officer was arrested from Karachi on charges of working for RAW. According to police officials, ASI Shahzad Parvez was arrested by the Special Investigation Unit (SIU) of police and other undercover bodies from Gulistan-e-Johar in Karachi.

The arrested RAW agent was a resident of Gulistan-e-Johar stationed at the Shahrah-e-Faisal police station, said police officials said two hand grenades were also recovered from his possession.

According to police reports, the arrested person was affiliated with MQM-London and was involved in various terrorist activities in the past. In addition, the suspect was also acting as a key member in groups that are accused of involvement in targeted killings in Karachi.
