A report states that Italian researchers have claimed to have successfully developed a vaccine to contain coronaviruses (Covid-19).
Arab News reported that the drug-developing firm, Luiz Auricchio, CEO of Taqis, said that the coronavirus vaccine has neutralized the virus in human cells for the first time.
“This is the most advanced stage of testing for candidate vaccines made in Italy. Human trials are expected later this summer, ” Auricchio was quoted as saying by the Italian news agency ANSA.
According to Spalzani Hospital, as far as we know we are the first person in the world who has demonstrated the neutralization of coronavirus by a vaccine, we expect the same to happen in humans.
Researchers experimented with the vaccine on mice that had successfully developed antibodies that prevent the virus from infecting cells. They further found that five vaccine candidates produced a large number of antibodies, and selected two with the best results.
All the vaccines currently being developed are based on the genetic material of the candidate DNA protein "spike", the molecular tip used by coronaviruses to enter human cells.
The report states that they are injected with the so-called "electroporation" technique, which consists of an intramuscular injection followed by a brief electrical impulse, which helps break down the vaccine in cells and activate the immune system.
Researchers believe that this makes their vaccines particularly effective in lung cells to generate functional antibodies against "spike" proteins, which are most vulnerable to coronaviruses.
"We are working hard for a vaccine coming from Italian research, with an all-Italian and innovative technology, tested in Italy and made available to all," Auricchio was quoted by Arab News Report .
'To reach this goal, we need the support of national and international institutions and partners, who can help us speed up the process,' he said.
The total number of Kovid-19 infections, mortality, and recoveries has increased to 213,013 since the epidemic began in the country.
