Xiaomi is working on a compact flagship smartphone that will play a 108 MP camera that can provide digital zoom up to 120x.
The upcoming smartphone is expected to be an updated version of the rude Xiaomi MCC10 series, according to a Xiaomi report.
The phone is expected to run with Qualcomm Snapdragon 775G processor, with support for 5G and Near Field Communication (NFC).
The report states that the Chinese electronics maker has been working on the release of smartphones since the beginning of 2020.
A report from GS Memrina states that the device's zoom camera will use a periscope setup that will keep the lens in a wide range of controls, receiving a 12x optical zoom with a 108 MP sensor.
This periscope camera is similar to the one described for the MI10 Youth Edition.
The optical sensor will not be the Samsung HMX that Xiaomi has used in its other 108 MP cameras. The company has developed a new CIS (CMOS imaging sensor) code called HM2, which it will use for its upcoming smartphones, according to a report by GeoMishka.
Optical zoom technology has an advantage over traditional digital zoom, including the ability to produce better quality images when shooting over long distances.
The smartphone is expected to be released in July.
The Xiaomi is the first smartphone to come with an ME10 108MP camera. The device has a quad-camera setup which includes a 13MP wide-angle camera, and a twoMP camera. The phone is also capable of recording videos in 8K.
